Association showcases the finest crafts of BC

The Crafts Association of BC celebrates BC Day and original works made by hand in British Columbia with fine craft demonstrations, including the traditional craft of Chinese decorative knotting by Carol Wang, basketry and weaving with kelp from Joanne Waters, and paper marbling with suminagashi ink painting by Candace Thayer-Coe.

The exhibiting artist at the Crafthouse Gallery is Laura Murdoch.

Until July 27, join Karin Marita Jones for Hearts & Nerves: Gold and Silver Inlay on Steel, modern interpretations of a traditional technique. Damascene inlay, historically used in the decoration of ceremonial arms and armour in Asia and Europe, has rarely been used in contemporary craft.

The exhibition Layered Light, featuring Laura Murdoch’s hand-blown glass vessels and pendant lights, begins July 31 and continues to Sept. 7.

From Sept. 11 to Oct. 19, Hanna Haapasalo will share with the public the possibilities of different weave structures in double weaving.

Activities are great for all ages and take place at the Crafthouse/CABC office at 1386 Cartwright St., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come join the Crafts Association of BC for professional fine craft demonstrations and fun, hands-on projects for all.

The Crafts Association is a registered, non-profit charitable arts service organization providing leadership in the craft community by building and promoting the development, appreciation, and viability of Canadian fine crafts. Donations are appreciated. For more information, contact CABC at 604.687.6511 or e-mail [email protected].
