After being designated the 2008 Cultural Capital of Canada, the city of Surrey is hosting the largest ever multicultural Surrey Fusion Festival.

The celebration takes place July 18 to July 20, at the new urban Holland Park across the King George Sky train station.

Over 60,000 people are expected to attend this free outdoor festival. They will be able to enjoy five stages of entertainment with headline performers on the World Music Stage and the Celebrations Dance Stage.

The festivities will kick off with a huge Bhangra party hosted by the International Bhangra superstar Jazzy B, along with KS Mahkan, African Guitar Summit, Kiran Ahluwalia, Elite Bhangra Dancers and more.

Playing Saturday night will be the Celtic legends The Chieftains, with The Cottars, Stepcrew, Nathan and Wheat in the Barley.

Juno Award winner Jully Black will headline Sunday night’s line-up of contemporary artists including Alex Cuba (currently #1 on iTunes USA Latin music charts), Hayley Sales, Pascale Picard, Delhi 2 Dublin and Ache Brasil.

The Celebration Dance Stage will feature some of the world’s best Irish dancers, The Step Crew, as well as entourages from Korea and China, Elite Bhangra and hip-hop crews, traditional oriental artistry, historical Persian performances, salsa, sambas, caporeia, calypso and modern tap.

The Fusion Chinese Spectacular with a delegation of artists from China including actors, traditional dancers and singers, cross talk artists, acrobats and face change artists will entertain on Saturday starting at 3 p.m.

Drum as One, hosted by Bobby James of Destineak, will take place on Sunday at noon. Bring your own drums or make a hand drum onsite at the Drum Craft Teepee.

"Surrey is home to people from all over the world," said Mayor Dianne Watts. "The Fusion Festival will provide a great venue for our residents to get out and celebrate the diversity of our great city."
