Party-at-the-Pier celebrates marine life

After the success of North Vancouver’s signature centennial event, which drew over 6,000 visitors last summer, the Lower Lonsdale Business Association presents North Vancouver’s Party-at-the-Pier, Celebrating the Maritime Community on Sunday, Aug. 31.

Party-at-the-Pier will include marine-themed activities and displays, along with entertainment on the Burrard Drydock and St. Roch Piers Stages, with entertainment for everyone. The 2008 event features some of Metro Vancouver’s best musical talent. Roving performers will be on site, including an amazing stilt walker, face painters and Mr. Flowers, who will amuse the young and old alike with his amazing balloon creations.

The festivities will also include the spectacular Seaspan Tugboat Ballet Show, a demonstration of the local fireboat, and a display on the new Spirit Trail under development along the North Shore’s waterfront.

The Royal Bank Esplanade branch will have RBC Olympian Andrea Holmes on-site and the three Olympic mascots for pictures and autographs between noon and 1:30 p.m.

"We will have artifacts from the Vancouver Maritime Centre, harbour tours, and information displays on the National Maritime Centre coming to this site", said the Business Association’s president Eugene Berti. "As the North Shore is the mountain bike capital of the world, we are working with local bike shops on a very entertaining demonstration at the Pier – with a splash!"

The event will be held at the foot of Lonsdale Avenue and the adjacent piers from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone is invited to participate and most of the events are free.
