Katrina Kaif may play role of murdered teen Scarlett Keeling

Renowned Bollywood director Prabhakar Shukla is set to make a movie on the tragic incident of rape and murder of 15-year-old British tourist Scarlett Keeling who was found dead on a beach in Goa in February.

Prabhakar Shukla told The Times in India that he would start shooting the movie Rave Party from July in Goa and is in contact with Katrina Kaif for the proposed role of Scarlett.

He further said he wished to reveal less known facts about the Portugese colony that is infamous as a "hippie paradise" and has become shelter for drug peddlers and addicts.

According to Shukla, "The whole film is about drug abuse and the exploitation of tourists" and he further said these problems are not unique to India.

He has yet to meet Scarlett’s mother but will hopefully meet her on a planned trip to Britain next month.

According to the comments reported to The Times, Keeling’s mother said she is in doubt about the movie if it might depict Scarlett in a negative light rather than her killers and the police she insists were too lenient in dealing with culprits.

"I’d like to know how they’re going to portray it, or I won’t approve it," she told The Times.

"I’m not sure about calling it Rave Party. Scarlett was not at a party. She was raped and murdered on the beach."

Scarlett’s case is recognized as one of the most brutal of a series of recent sexual assaults on foreign women tourists that have raised concern about the safety of women visitors to India. Her case remains unsolved.
