Hip hop beat brings youthful dance show

Fresh Groove

Fresh Groove Productions is known for winning hip hop competitions across the continent. Dancers range from ages six to 21 and come from all parts of the Lower Mainland bringing a youthful, dynamic energy to this Dance Allsorts event.

Fresh Groove will do a back-to-back performance with Montreal’s internationally renowned Rubberbandance Group for the tenth season of Dance Allsorts: Vancouver’s most diverse dance series. The show, presented by New Works at the Roundhouse Centre, will be held on April 13.

Rubberdance exploded onto the dance circuit with an exciting original style of dance, combining breakdance, hip hop and ballet. For their performance, the six-member troupe will be performing excerpts of Elastic Perspective. This cutting edge piece, choreographed by Victor Quijada, co-Artistic director of Rubberbandance Group, breaks the established conventions of hip hop, and delivers up a unique approach.

New Works, in partnership with the Roundhouse Community Centre, presents this popular event which is  considered an inexpensive series which exposes audiences to all sorts of dance.

This season New Works is doubling the number of performances by including a second performance at 4 p.m. While the 2 p.m. performance remains pay-what-you-can, the 4 p.m. performance is a ticketed event for patrons who want the assurance of having a guaranteed seat. Performances have been increasingly filled to capacity, and some audience members have been concerned about getting in to the popular shows.

Once a month, people of all ages can stroll up to the Roundhouse and enjoy a spectacular professional performance by some of Vancouver’s best dancers. True Dance Allsorts fans know that they’ll enjoy a great show, no matter what they’re seeing. The philosophy of Fresh Groove Productions is to nourish personal growth, strengthen self-esteem, and bolster self-confidence.

Dance Allsorts performances take place in a welcoming environment and allows for interaction with the performers after the show on April 13th at the Roundhouse Community Centre.
