Description of job: The core of my work relates to health care and clinical service areas. The financial aspect of the job is budgeting, financial analysis. The operational aspect is about ensuring that the core service is being provided.
Best part of job: It is enjoyable most days but very challenging. Anytime you are working in a corporate role, the core of the role is to lead people and build relationships. I really enjoy the people that I work with. If you can’t work well with the people around you, you will virtually always fail - it makes all the difference in the world. Another benefit is when I know that my management team is successful, patients will always benefit, they will receive better care.

Advice: Make sure that the stream you choose is one that supports your learning needs. People look at CMA as accounting designations. But it’s unique. People must understand that it deals with much more than accounting. So be prepared to look at things from a strategic, more broader business perspective. It’s not just about numbers, but how you can use numbers to work for you to create value.

Upcoming vacation plans: None planned yet, but I would love to go back to East Africa to visit family. I haven’t been there for 10 years.
In five years: I see myself enjoying a much more balanced life where I can merge my career and family time so that it’s sustainable rather than segmented.
