Kwantlen and SPARK program

(Surrey, BC )  Envision Financial has a strong interest in enhancing education opportunities for the youth in its communities. Kwantlen University College’s SPARK program is the most recent beneficiary of a $10,000 gift from Envision to support programs that share innovative approaches to the school community.

The SPARK program is a partnership between Kwantlen, the Surrey School District and the SPARK Foundation to assist students in obtaining a university education who due to economic and/or cultural reasons may not attend otherwise.  Each year, 25 students are selected during their Grade 11 year to attend two university level courses, which upon graduation can be applied to an undergraduate degree. Upon entering Kwantlen, SPARK participants are eligible for a 50% reduction in tuition fees with the balance paid for by the SPARK Foundation.

Many of the students attending Kwantlen through SPARK are the first in their family to do so. By increasing the post-secondary participation rate within populations that do not typically pursue further education, SPARK prepares students with training and job skills to enhance their employability.

Kwantlen University College Foundation Executive Director Jeff Norris praised Envision for their socially responsible corporate policies: “We have a great sense of pride that corporate partners like Envision choose to invest in Kwantlen.  Programs like SPARK would not be available for the community without their support.”

Envision Financial has been a strong supporter of educational programs at Kwantlen since 1990, donating more than $65,000 towards scholarships and program areas.  "The SPARK program makes a tangible difference in the lives of many students," says Envision President and CEO Gord Huston. "At Envision Financial, we are committed to investing in the future leaders of our communities and we are proud to be part of this initiative."

The Kwantlen Foundation was established in 2000 and raises funds to create quality, life-long learning opportunities for Kwantlen students to achieve personal, social and career success. For more information or to make a donation, visit www.kwantlen.ca/foundationor call 604.599.2010.
