A resort amidst
Mataking Island
The Reef Dive Resort at Mataking Island, Malaysia, is the newest and hottest dive spot in the Celebes Sea, located just 40 minutes from Semporna, a fishing town at east coast of the state of Sabah, Malaysia.

The resort provides luxurious accommodation to the enchanting undersea world of Mataking Island. The Alice Channel which is about 100 meters deep connecting Mataking to Sipadan Island just 80 minutes boat ride away. There is much to do and explore on Mataking for divers, holiday makers, family travellers and honeymooners alike.


There are about 30 dive sites around Mataking and its surrounding islands of Pandanan, Timba Timba and the Tun Sakaran Marine Park islands of Bohey Dulang and Gaya. The 3 well-known site to divers that surrounds Mataking are Magic Rick, Mantis Reef and the Alice Wall. The Alice Channel which is about 100 metres deep connects Mataking to Sipadan Island offering both macro and pelagic diving for divers at the island. Guests are also given option to dive in Sipadan (45-minutes boat ride away). Encounters with barracuda, stingray, green turtle, colourful corals fishes, Trevally, Spanish mackerels, Ribbon eels, giant clams, Dogtooth tuna and so on are common sight during your dive.


Occasionally in March and April the gigantic Whale Sharks make an appearance on their migration path to south.


But the truly unique attractions are the Green and Hawksbill Turtles of Sipadan. Seen literally on every dive and very used to divers, they will just ignore you and let you take their photographs even at the closest distance.


Back on land, the night life can be exciting watching fire flies. 


Green and Hawksbill turtles come up to lay their eggs in the sands of Mataking Island. During the day, bask on the snow white sandy beach and enjoy the sight of the island’s coconut crab scurrying up a tree. 


You can also take a walk while listening to the bird’s singing in our exotic garden. 


If you prefer a bird’s eye view of Mataking, climb up the King’s Watchtower and enjoy the breathtaking sight. 


If you are more adventurous, grab a few friends and explore the lushness of the tropical island vegetation or have some fun playing beach volleyball & beach soccer, taking up some traditional handicrafts, cooking and dancing lessons.  You can also take the chance to re-enact Moses’ miraculous crossing of the Red sea by taking a stroll down the 1km sandbar that connects Mataking and Mataking Kecil at low tide. 


The water literally split into half and you don’t even have to wave your hands!  Mother Nature does it all for you.


The resort offers 3 boat dives a day, unlimited house reef diving and not to be missed excursion to the nearby island including the well known island of Sipadan and Mabul.
