Peace on Permai Resort

Covering 44 acres and set in Borneo rainforest and the shores of the South China Sea, the Permai Rainforest Resort, offers a unique jungle experience ranging from a day winging with the monkeys or spending the nights in a tree house.

Designed to minimise impact on the natural environment, the resort buildings at the foot of mystical Mount Santubong blend with the surroundings with massive trees forming a green wall.

The resort is only 25 km or 30 minutes drive north of Kuching, the capital of Sarawak.

When you arrive at the resort at the foot of Mt Santubong, the first sight to greet you is the beautiful backdrop of the reception area, built entirely of wood.

Right outside the reception, you will be able to see silver langurs feeding and gently moving through the trees.

There is a boardwalk built over a small wetland area leading to the beach. Not too far from this are the tree houses, built about seven metres above the ground (or about the height of the forest canopy).

The accommodations have all the comforts you need, including a wash area with hot showers, a dressing table and a bedroom facing the sea.

Operating since 1990, Permai Rainforest Resort is a unique place with its own rugged identity, undisturbed natural beauty and wonderfully rich biodiversity. The feeling of being up amongst the trees while looking out over the South China Sea is a unique experience at the resort.

A short walk away from the tree houses brings you to the Jungle Pool that gently overflows from the constant feed from a mountain stream. The water is refreshingly cool.

The soft sea breeze blowing through the forest canopy makes walking around the resort very pleasant.

There is also secluded beach that’s perfect for sunbathing.

The sunset here is simply spectacular or you can watch it at the Rainforest Café.

Adventure at the resort takes the shape of an Evening Mangrove Cruise that brings you to Kampung Salak, a Malay village on stilts that looks like it’s been caught in a time warp from 50 years ago.

You will cruise along smaller tributaries and view the trees and the architecture of the forest up close. There, serenity prevails.

Here you can catch a glimpse of the rare proboscis monkey that can only be found in Sarawak.

Other activities include dolphin-watching tour, trekking up Mount Santubong and sea kayaking.
