ReD FM One Year Anniversary

First South Asian FM station celebrates 1st anniversary

Surrey: The only South Asian radio station on FM dial, CKYE 93.1 ReD FM is celebrating its first anniversary on January 23, 2007. Numerous contests will mark the celebration, with an ‘Open House’ on Jan 23, wherein listeners and supporters can visit ReD FM studios, meet the hosts and have a snack.

Kulwinder Sanghera, president of ReD FM, calls it the most enthralling moment for the ReD FM staff, supporters and listeners. “Our radio station is an integral part of the community and we exist not only to entertain, but also to educate and spread awareness in the community on issues that affect us directly and indirectly. We act as a catalyst for positive changes.”

In last one year, ReD FM organized a number of charity events. To mention a few:

Ø      ReD FM Food Drive saw 50,000 pounds food items being collected in a single day.  According to Surrey Food Bank, this was highest in a single day in 23 years.

Ø      ReD FM raised 200,000 dollars for Nargis Dutt Cancer Foundation (India).

Ø      Telethon organised for BC Children’s Hospital raised over 300,000.

The year also saw Sanghera picking up Business Person of the Year Award. “I want to thank everyone for their support in making 93.1 a success and want to thank Surrey Board of Trade for honoring me with the award.” Talking about the future plan, Sanghera says he wants to take 93.1 across Canada.
