Mehfil’s Vig brothers honour South Asians

B.C.-based Mehfil Magazine hosted the 2nd annual RBC Mehfil Magazine Awards for Excellence Gala last Saturday, October 2nd.
Some 460 guests packed the ballroom at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in downtown Vancouver for the awards ceremony, which recognized eight individuals for their achievements and contributions and former BC Attorney General and appeal court judge Wally Oppal with a lifetime achievement award.
“We knew this was going to be another exciting evening,” said Rana Vig, co-publisher of Mehfil Magazine. “Our community has been anticipating this event since last year and, once again, tickets sold out quickly .”
“It is an honour for us to be able to host an event like this,” added Minto Vig, co-publisher and editor. “With Mehfil Magazine, we’ve always done our best to play a role in making the broader community aware of the talented and successful individuals in our community while providing role models for our youth.”
Master of Ceremonies comedian Sugar Sammy, who was flown in from Montreal for the event, entertained the audience with his off-the-cuff remarks throughout the evening.
“This was a great event and it’s fantastic that Mehfil Magazine takes this kind of initiative to honour our community,” he said. “I’m honoured to be here and be a part of it.”

the late Dr. Hari Sharma for Community Service
Jarnail Singh for Excellence in the Arts
Bobby Singh for Excellence in Sports
Dr. Gira Bhatt for Research Innovation
Dave Shokar for India-Canada Trade
Peter Raju for Corporate Excellence
Wally Oppal for Lifetime Achievement.
