100 Year Journey honoured at the GG awards

The 100 Year Journey Project was honoured at the recently held 20th Governor General’s History Awards in Rideau Hall, Ottawa. The Greater Vancouver-based initiative was one of a few select projects from across the country recognized for their contribution to teaching, promoting and preserving Canadian history.
"It was an absolute honour to be nominated and invited to Ottawa to attend various forums and the awards ceremony,” said Rana Vig, co-founder of the 100 Year Journey.
The Governor General’s History Awards honour exceptional achievements in five areas: teaching, museums, community programming, scholarly research, and popular media. The 100 Year Journey project was recognized as a finalist in the Community Programming category which spotlights community projects that tell stories about our past in unique and innovative ways."We were thrilled when earlier this year Premier Christy Clark chose the 100 Year Journey book to be the official gift that was given from the province of British Columbia to India's visiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi," said Vig, who added that he was humbled by the new recognition.
The Governor General’s History Awards were first established in 1996, by Canada’s National History Society, to recognize excellence in teaching Canadian history.
Established in 2014, the 100 Year Journey project celebrates South Asian pioneers in Canada by sharing their stories through a commemorative publication and a website:  www.100yearjourney.com.
