Naad Festival 2015 celebrates arts

HERITAGE DEFENDER, the award winning Naad Foundation, hosted a two-day festival of 
Poetry, Music, dance & Film September 19 & 27, 2015.
During the sold-out Poetry section (Mushaira) on September 19, the night featured prominent and popular local poets and shyars. 
Highlighting the Mushaira was our chief guest, the great Punjabi poet, Mr. Navtej Bharti.
Amarjeet Singh (founder and faculty member of Naad) showcased his mastery of the tabla in a recital. Over 35 poets recited their poetry. The Naad Foundation awarded each poet a beautiful plaque.
The Folk Music & Film Festival on September 27 started with a concert featuring two rhythmic tabla ensembles. Two groups of students of Amarjeet Singh (founder and faculty member of Naad) performed electrifying compositions in 10.5 beats and 9 beats Matt-taal.
Then six of Gagandeep Singh’s students of sang folk songs with accompaniment. 
A beautiful short film “Run Along Robert” directed by Gurleen Kaur Suri and music composed by our own Gagandeep Singh was featured, describing a day in the life of a young man with severe aversion to conflict, takes a turn when he is confronted by a character from his past.
Gagandeep Singh (founder, singer/composer and faculty member of Naad) sang compositions of greatest poet Bhai Veer Singh “Nadi Kinare” and a number of folk songs in Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi.
Original fusion compositions were performed with Naad Fusion Band. This performance showed that music does not have any barriers.
