Vancouver’s mad mixologists set to make more memories

When was the last time, after a long day of work, you got to lean back and enjoy a Queensborough Gin, or a Roots & Wings & Walter, or dare say, even a Monkey Shoulder?

And dare to dream…? Imagine the exhilaration of sipping on the trifecta, all three cocktails, in a single evening?

The Science of Cocktails only happens once per year – this must-attend gathering is once again sold out – and it transforms Science World at TELUS World of Science into Vancouver’s maddest laboratory of experimental cocktails in the city.

The ShoulderQueensborough, and the Walter are only three of dozens of concoctions available that evening – each cocktail available from its separate bar station where it is mixed on site, often through complex mixological processes that include the application of glycerin smoke + aroma jars, kitchen sized centrifuges, and molecular caviar pearls.

There is even a local libation, the Bruichladdich, distilled from the zesty buzz of bees.

The evening also includes hands-on activities like the free pour challenge, and demonstrations like the fire and ice chemistry of cocktails.

This year’s robot bartender is sure to mix some precise drinks – but will you be able to taste the love? The question demands further experimentation.

Of course, all of this chemical bonding over drinks is made even sweeter knowing the proceeds fund the Science World Class Field Trip Bursary: https://www.scienceworld.ca/classbursary. This bursary covers up to 100% of the admission costs, and a portion of the transportation cost for school kids attending Science World on class field trips.

In 2016, 6,000 kids around the province benefited from this bursary. In 2017, this number increased by 33% to 8,000 kids getting the opportunity to visit Science World.

This year’s event takes place on Thursday February 8th and while it is too late to buy tickets for next week’s event, they are on sale now for next year’s Feb 7, 2019 event.

So if you are into the science of shaking, the pertinence of pairing and the thrill of the chill, all set within the memorable ambiance of Science World, go to http://scienceworld.ca/cocktails
