‘Raindrop: A Quest for Love’ showcases Nobel winning lyricist Rabindranath Tagore

The musical dance-drama, ‘Raindrop: A Quest for Love’, has two parallel plots of love and nature. The play is part of the eighth annual West Coast Tagore Festival on Sept. 8, 2018 at Gateway Theatre in Richmond.

In one narrative, the dance-drama presents Dhora, the protagonist, as a young woman secretly questing for love. She seems to be a happy single person, even though her Fear, the antagonist, does not allow her to follow her true emotions. In the second narrative, Dhora appears as the village soil getting dry deep inside and silently yearning for rain from Shyamal, the Dark Cloud; but her Fear does not let her welcome the changes she must undergo to embrace the cloudburst.

Rabindrasangeet singer Shankhanaad Mallick is the musical director.

This year’s festival’s slogan is ‘Back to the Nature’. Other performances in the Festival include Indian classical music, dance and multicultural poetry.

Vancouver Tagore Society, a not-for-profit organization that promotes multiculturalism, diversity, and sustainable environment through artistic endeavors.

Admission to the festival is free. Donations are appreciated.
