Nep Sidhu’s exhibit hosts kirtin at SFU Downtown

Two new exhibits invite the public to co-create a collective and a lived musical experience.
Kirtan, a participatory performance, featuring Gurpreet Chana, will take place within Nep Sidhu’s Medicine for a Nightmare exhibition at the Audain Gallery July 10 from 6 – 8 pm.

Kirtan is a spiritual form of music practiced widely in Sikhism and collectively within Sinkh congregations, also known as sangats. This gathering is open to everyone. The kirtan also touches upon themes and historical references represented in Sidhu’s current exhibit in downtown Vancouver.

Garpreet Chana, Toronto-based musician, engineer, composer, and performer, draws from the tabla language, ancient and contemporary technologies to create new modes of artistic expression. His music engages melody and rhythm to support cross-cultural and interpersonal communion.

He has collaborated with other musicians around the world including Kiran Ahluwalia, Bombay Dub Orchestra, DJ Starting from Scratch, Jorane, Robert Mason (kLoX), Niyas, Abida Parveen, UK DJ/producer Bally Sagoo and Tanya Tagaq.

This event is co-presented by Indian Summer Festival.
