MY WORK

Years of Position:  1 year

What is the best part of your job?:

I enjoy working in a team environment where I can bring out everybody’s strengths to ensure the best decision is made.

Responsibilities:

For the last four month I have been consulting on an ERP implementation that requires me to co-ordinate and facilitate the operational transaction and ensure they are correctly translated into financial terms.  My pervious role as a controller of an $80M division of an international company, required knowledge of the business to ensure financial representation was accurate, monitoring budget vs actual results and forecast.  Supporting other departments in financial matter and to ensure business cases were accurate and strategically aligned were also a major part of my responsibilities.

Challenges (the most difficult incident you have dealt in your work):

Having being recently promoted to a controller of another division that had spare production space  in Ontario and a head office in Vancouver, I was involved in the decision to validate the relocation of production from a Vancouver sister division, that I had previously worked in for about 10 years.  The decision would have resulted in the lay-off of about 30 employees, of some whom I knew personally, at the Vancouver sister division; the result was more control over working capital and quality issues we were measured against as a division.

Differences (how is it different from other jobs that you previously had/ or school?):

Having been previously involved mostly in financial issues, my current role provides me exposure to a variety of departments.  As we are constantly learning and I took on this role as a consultant to understand in more detail the functionality of other departments and their impact on the business.  Hopefully this will broaden my business exposure and make me more generally rounded when making business decisions.
