Bollywood brings it on!

The glitz, glamour and gaiety of Bollywood bounds onto the stage at GM Place this summer with the arrival August 16 of The Unforgettable World Tour.

Featuring the legendary Amitabh Bachchan and newly-wed power couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya, the globe-trotting tour promises performances by a polished cast of Indian superstars, bringing the magic of Indian cinema live to Vancouver fans.

Famed choreographer Shiamak Davar has been working for months on the dance routines for the hotly anticipated super-show.

Speaking with the South Asian Post during his visit last week to Metro Vancouver as part of India’s "India Calling" commerce and culture tour of Canada, Davar said the Bachchan family makes work seem like play.

"It's a nice comfort zone working with people like this because they know the way I work," said Davar. "Mr.Bachchan is comfortable taking risks. He says, 'Mr.Shiamak, it's all in your hands,' and then he leaves me to it. It's fantastic."

Davar, whose Indo Jazz Dance Movement is taught at dance schools worldwide, including several throughout Metro Vancouver, has choreographed an exhaustive list of Bollywood films, including Dil to Pagal Hai, Dhoom 2, Kisna and Taare Zameen Par.

Davar says with such a busy schedule, life is much easier when he works with people who let him run wild with his imagination.

"I love working with people who want to be risky," he said. "They never really stop me or say, 'Oh I don't like that.' They always listen and cooperate, so for me, that's an interesting way of working."

The Indian dancer currently has several projects on the go. He is in the midst of choreographing Aditya Chopra's much anticipated film, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, featuring Bollywood superstar, Sharukh Khan.

The romantic comedy will be released this December.

"The film is about a dancer, that's all I can say," Davar laughed. "I am sworn to secrecy."

And speaking of secrets, Davar also revealed that he is creating a blazingly hot dance routine for the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics. Still blueprinting the performance, Davar said he doesn't know yet if he’s ultimately secured the gig, but he promises his routine will include fresh new moves.

"I try to work on my own moves, like incorporating different styles like in hip hop, funk and jazz and coming up with something new," he said. "Otherwise it all looks the same."
