The 2nd Surrey Annual Philippine Independence Day Celebration takes place this year on Sunday June 6, at the Guildford Recreation Center
The event which is entitled Filipino Canadians: Fostering Unity in the Community will be held in Gymnasiums 1 & 2 (plus the possibility of using Gymnasium 3 as well).
This year commemorates the 112th anniversary of Philippine Independence. The event is open to the public free of admission and will start with an outdoor parade/procession of SantaCruzan at 10:00am. The line up of 26 lovely queens will be headlined by Bb. Pilipinas of the World 2009 Richelle Green as this year’s Reyna Elena and Roque Nicholas “Nicky” Juatco III as her Constantine.
There will be a trade show of sponsor booths as well as food stalls showcasing various Filipino, Continental, and ethnic dishes.
The show will be directed by Robert Tongko and the entertainment portion will be coordinated by Jerry “Papa Bear” Legaspi, who along with long-time entertainment partner, Jojo Alpuerto will be the MC’s. There will be 5 special guest lady hosts for each segment of the entire program.
Entertainment includes cultural dances from Kabayang Pilipino, La Riva Dance Group, and PhilCAS (Philippine Cultural Arts Society of BC). Respected and widely-admired musical group BC Akapella will also be performing. There will also be some some surprise guests providing stage performances. For the kids there will be parlor games and for parents a raffle draw of several prizes including a trip for 2 to Las Vegas.
