South Asian Family Association seeks scholarship applicants

The South Asian Family Association (www.safa.ca) will be selecting 3 applicants to award $1,000 each towards their higher education.
There will be one recipient chosen from each of the following categories:  Academic Excellence, Community Involvement and Fine Arts Achievement.

Applicants must fulfill the following criteria:
1.     Be of South Asian descent;
2.     Be a B.C. resident or citizen under the definitions of the Immigration Act;
4.     Be enrolling into full-time studies in 2010 at an accredited institution that will lead to a first post-secondary degree;
5.     Have completed Grade 12 studies at a BC secondary school.
 
To apply for an award in Academic Excellence, two academic references and an official school transcript are required.
To be considered for an Award for Community Involvement, the applicant must supply a listing of all of the community activities and associations in which they participated in the last three years. They should also note if and how they took on leadership role.
Those applying for the Fine Arts Achievement Award are required to submit a portfolio and short written work up of their work and achievement in a particular discipline.
For all awards, a 1,000 word essay is also required.
Winners will be announced at the 8th Annual Sawan Mela festival at the Lumberman’s Arch in Stanley Park on June 12 and 13, 2010.
The festival will run from 2pm - 7:30pm on Saturday and from 12p - 6pm on Sunday.
