A rainy story for a wet city

Victoria based author Punitha Muniandy has released her debut novel about the conundrums faced by an Indo-Canadian family in ‘Barish – One Rainy Day’.
In the book, the lives of the various characters in a family seem to unravel in a single precipitous day.
News of a husband’s adultery, future son-in-law’s doubts, younger daughters love affair and the oldest daughter’s spitefulness generate a tale full of intrigue and household drama that exceeds even that of the classic Indian soap opera.
Muniandy, who was born and raised in Malaysia and immigrated to Canada with her husand, wrote the narrative to peel back the layers that seem to take too much importance in our lives.
“What the characters experience and learn in Barish is that in the end it’s not where they live that matters, and it’s not about the upbringing or the culture or society,” she said.
”Ultimately, it’s about how each person shapes their lives, choosing what is important to them.”
Muniandy has published ebooks, short stories and non-fiction articles. She lives on Vancouver Island with her husband and two children.
She is the organizer for Victoria’s Writer’s Group.
