The 49th annual Variety Show of Hearts Telethon airs February 14 and 15, 2015 on Global BC and has a few surprises in store for British Columbians.
Beginning at 6:00PM on Saturday, and winding up at 5:00PM Sunday evening, the two-day show features heartwarming stories of children in B.C. helped by Variety - The Children’s Charity, concerts showcasing the music industry’s biggest stars, and innovative ways for viewers to engage with the show – including an online campaign to win a new car.

“The Show of Hearts Telethon is our biggest fundraising event of the year,” says Bernice Scholten, executive director of Variety. “Our cause helps provide children with equipment, therapies and medications – these are costs not covered by the health care system and often beyond the financial means of many families. We invite everyone to be a part of our team and help make a difference in the lives of children who have special needs.”
There are many families in British Columbia who need Variety’s help, and last year, Variety provided funding to over 1,400 families and 36 organizations across the province. The funding helped to cover the costs of life-saving trips to out-of-community hospitals for emergency care, life-changing mobility and communication therapies and equipment, and life-changing bursaries to special schools and summer camps.
Variety believes that children who have special needs are champions, and is inspired by their courage and determination. With support, these children often achieve epic little victories as they conquer and rise above their individual challenges. Whether it’s taking their first step with a walker; finding their voice with speech and language therapy; or recovering in a hospital with their family by their side, Variety celebrates each little victory of every child.
Since 1966, Variety has raised over $170 million to provide life-saving, life-changing and life-enriching support.
Viewers will also have a chance to win a new Ford Fiesta generously provided by Variety’s friends at Ford Canada.
