People from India are topping the charts when it comes to the amount of time spent in the kitchen.
According to the a new study, which polled more than 27,000 people across 22 countries, Indians spend 13.2 hours per week on cooking, the highest in the world.
The number is just a tad bit higher than Ukraine, where residents spend, on average, 13.1 hours preparing food in the kitchen every week.
The third-most passionate about preparing their own food are South Africans, who spend about 9.5 hours weekly, followed by Indonesians (8.3 hours) and Italy (7.1 hours).
The findings, collated by GfK, seeks to provide valuable insights for companies who are into the business of selling food and cooking products or services.
“We are seeing growing demand for electric food preparation appliances in India, Indonesia and Italy,” GfK said in its press release.
Overall, people across the world spend, on average, just under six and a half hours a week cooking their own food.
The areas where residents admit they don’t cook as much are Brazil, registering more than five hours, Turkey (less than five hours) and South Korea (less than four hours).
About a third of people globally said they have “great knowledge and experience” about food and cooking.
In terms of knowledge and experience in cooking, people from South Africa and India are the most confident about their culinary skills.
About half 50 of South Africans and 48 per cent of Indians said they believe they have the knowledge and experience in cooking. Also in the top five most confident are Turkey and Ukraine at 40 per cent each and Indonesia at 38 per cent.
Among the least confident, on the other hand, are countries known for their great cuisine, such as France and Spain, where one in five (20 per cent) believe they have great knowledge and experience with cooking.
There are also few people in Russia and Australia (about 20 per cent each) who said they have the knowledge and experience. Trailing behind are people from Belgium (19 per cent) and South Korea (13 per cent).
The respondents interviewed for the survey were aged 15 or older. The survey was conducted either online or face-to-face in the summer of 2014.
