Canuck Place Children’s Hospice is BC and Yukon’s pediatric palliative care provider. Over 871 children living with life-threatening illnesses and families receive care in hospice, in-home, and in the hospital. Canuck Place is where short lives are lived to the fullest, and together, we can support families in living the end of life as fully as the beginning.

In August 2016, Jessica and Chris Sui were expecting their second child — their one in a million. At the routine 20-week ultrasound, they discovered their daughter, Charlotte, had several abnormalities, the most severe being a heart defect so rare that only one other family in the world was medically documented.

The Sui family was referred to Canuck Place during Jessica’s pregnancy. The introduction to Canuck Place is never easy — and the Suis were resistant. “No parent wants to believe and accept that their child is ill,” says Jessica. “But Canuck Place kindly supported our resistance, and walked us through uncertainty during those early days.” Charlotte’s light shines on, even after her passing. The Canuck Place program includes ongoing bereavement and grief counselling and memory-making to honour a life lived.
