The South Asian Post has become the first Indo-Canadian community newspaper in British Columbia to be nominated for a prestigious Jack Webster Award for Excellence in Journalism.
And we have you to thank for it.
Your support and loyalty helped us crusade for an innocent man who was jailed in India after his B.C. wife was murdered.
Our efforts and your help paved the way for Sukhwinder Singh to walk out of jail this year after 44 months in prison.
This was the second time he was framed for crimes he did not commit.
Sukhwinder Singh — aka Mithu — is the central figure in an international saga of forbidden love that culminated in the cultural murder of Jaswinder Kaur Sidhu, a beautician from Maple Ridge, B.C.
Jaswinder, or Jassi, was 25-years-old when she was kidnapped, tortured and killed in the spring of 2000 after going against her family's wishes and marrying Mithu.
"Without the support of our advertisers and readers, we could not have done this . . . it's a proud day for all concerned," said South Asian Post publisher, Harbinder Singh Sewak.
We value your continued support and thank you for helping us save an innocent man.
