CHINA


CIBT to establish education centre in Zhuhai in Southern China
Vancouver-based CIBT Education Group Inc, through its subsidiary CIBT School of Business and Technology Corp., signed an agreement to establish a CIBT Education Centre at the Zhuhai Broadcasting & Television University (ZBTU) in Zhuhai City, China. This new centre will deliver a variety of programs offered by CIBT and its US and Canadian academic partners, with particular emphasis on hotel management and travel tourism; as Zhuhai is close to the city of Macau, CIBT plans to deliver a variety of management and vocational programs relating to the casino and gaming industry in Zhuhai with job placements targeted for Macau. CIBT Education Group delivers US and China accredited business and management degree programs, automotive, diesel and marine maintenance programs, IT programs, and vocational programs through its network of campuses.


HONG KONG

Yangtze Telecom acquires mobile services company
Vancouver-based Yangtze Telecom Corp., which provides telecom services and wireless digital TV services in China and Mongolia, announced that it signed a share exchange agreement with Hong Kong-based China Poly Group Limited to purchase a 95% stake in Hunchun VAS Company Limited (HCVAS). HCVAS, based in Jilin, China, owns two patents in China; a mobile phone controlled biometric security system and a push-to-talk technology over cellular systems.


AUSTRALIA


Neptune Technologies & Bio-resources commercialize medicine in Australia
Laval, Quebec-based Neptune Technologies & Bio-resources Inc. obtained approval from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in Australia allowing the immediate commercialization of its Neptune Krill Oil (NKO) as a complementary medicine in Australia. Neptune Krill Oil is registered under the name ‘Euphausia superba oil’. Neptune also secured a permit from the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service to import material for NKO. Neptune, a company focused on the health and wellness market, develops proprietary health ingredients from marine biomasses, such as krill, with a patented extraction process.


CANADA


Indian Businesses to explore BC opportunities
British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell announced that Indian business representatives will be in British Columbia next year to discuss business opportunities between B.C. and India. The Indian Merchants’ Chamber will bring a delegation of approximately 80 companies from a range of business sectors to Vancouver on June 18 and 19 next year, as part of the chamber’s annual international outreach program, India Calling. Previous India Calling conferences have been held in Singapore, Dubai, London and South Africa. The delegation will also be in Toronto on June 16 and 17 to explore investments and trade opportunities.

 

 

NEW DELHI


Malaspina University College signs MoUs in India
Nanaimo, BC-based Malaspina University College signed three Memorandums of Understanding in New Delhi, India, for collaboration on international education opportunities with Maharishi Markandeshwar Engineering College, the University of Delhi and Apeejay Institute of Technology. Malaspina University College has over 10,000 full-time Canadian students and 1,000 international students.

 


NEPAL


More non-Asian tourists go to Nepal
The visitor arrivals data released by Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport shows that the total number of visitors in November has reached to 34580, up by 17.6 percent compared to the same month last year. The major tourist generating non-Asian markets have shown very encouraging growth. The major European markets have recorded average growth of 46 percent in this month. The arrivals from the UK (56.9%), Germany (42%), France (50.8%), Spain (27.9%), the Netherlands (48.4%) and Switzerland (69.2%) clearly show a growing consumer confidence for traveling to Nepal and this sheds a very positive hope for the Nepalese travel trade. The USA, Canadian and Australian markets also equally present a positive hope for further investments in these markets.

 

 

PHILIPPINES

Biz chamber releases guidebook to doing business in Davao
The Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) has delivered several important programs that helped in the delivery of services related to doing business in the city.
DCCCII president lawyer Domingo Duerme reported among others that an Advocacy Manual and Resource Guidebook was finalized and completed for the chamber to use. It is aimed at strengthening the capacity of DCCCII to deliver a more effective and strong business advocacy. He also said that a resolution was drafted urging all foreign partners particularly Japan, Australia, the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom and the members of the European Union, to clarify in any travel advisory they might issue against Mindanao, that the same should not include or cover travel to or from the City of Davao.

 


CHINA


New Canada-China joint committee on health.
The Joint Committee will consist of representatives from a number of Canadian and Chinese departments involved in health matters to share information, establish goals, and address emerging issues. Areas to be discussed include: food, drug and product regulations; emerging infectious diseases; and the promotion of scientific exchange. Minister Clement also signed an MoU with China’s Minister of the Chinese General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine to enhance cooperation on issues related to consumer product safety. The MoU will establish technical working groups that will share informations.
