Indo-Canadian actress Lisa Ray will be returning to public life very shortly after a battle with Cancer
Indo-Canadian actress Lisa Ray, who was diagnosed with a rare cancer - multiple myeloma, is cured of the disease and will be back in public life shortly.
Her treatment began in July 2009 and she struggled a lot to overcome the disease and the trauma associated with this.
One report quoted Lisa Ray saying, “This (cancer) has hijacked my life for long enough and now I am going to take matters into my own hands.”
Lisa Ray’s father is a Bengali, while her mom is Polish. She started her career as a model, and then did a Tamil film, “Nethaji”. She later made her bollywood debut in Vikram Bhatt’s “Kasoor” in 2001.
In 2002, Lisa Ray acted in Deepa Mehta’s “Bollywood Hollywood”.
She again worked with Deepa Mehta in “Water” in 2005.
After getting treated with radical stem cell transplant treatment, she said, “It’s really been a kind of rebirth. It’s like being reborn from the inside out. It’s a big cleaning from the middle of your marrow and spreading out.’’
She was treated at the Jaslok hospital in Mumbai. Dr M Basade, who did the stem cell treatment, said that “The cancer goes into remission for up to four to five years after one round of stem cell treatment. The treatment can be repeated thereafter.’’
Speaking at the 8th Indian Film Festival in Los Angeles, she said that she will now divide her time between Canada and Mumbai.
She felt that India is her second home and admitted that she wants to spend more time with the people around here.
The actress is also happy to announce that her hair is also coming back to normal.
