Vancouver Community College invests in hospitality training

Vancouver Community College has expanded its hospitality management training through a new partnership in China, where students would be able to begin their VCC program then transfer to Vancouver to complete their diploma.
Students at Suzhou Vocational School of Information Technology in China would take 10 courses in VCC’s highly respected hospitality program – taught in Chinese but including extensive English as a Second Language training – then finish the final 10 courses at the college’s downtown Vancouver campus.“This is an exciting approach that makes this recognized VCC program even more accessible to international students,” said Judy Turner, the college’s interim vice-president for international programming. “We are thrilled that this program is attracting so much interest internationally – which really speaks to its high quality and level of recognition.”
International students who complete the college’s two-year diploma can choose to stay in Canada to work for one year through the post-graduate work permit program, or they can apply to VCC’s hospitality management degree program, which once completed makes them eligible to stay and work in Canada for up to three years, notes Turner.
The program starts in China this fall, and the students would come to Vancouver in late 2012 to continue the second part of their training.Plans are already in the works for a second, similar arrangement with Suzhou Vocational School for students to take VCC’s automotive technician program in China and Vancouver. For more information contact Harvey Leong at [email protected].
