Whether in New York, London or Vancouver, artists have always been the pulse rejuvenating our urban spaces and ideas.
Vancouver based fashion designer Paramita Naidu is part of that cutting-edge artisanal front in the Lower Mainland. Her fashion house, Lotus Eye, which has been featured in the Vancouver Sun, National Post Style section, and Fame’d Magazine, will be unveiling its latest collection this week in Chinatown’s Ayden Art Gallery.
The show, FORME: Exploring Fashion’s Borders, will be running Thursday, November 10 and is being presented in collaboration with South Asian Arts and VisualNoiseType.com.
Lotus Eye is renowned for its bold prints and sensual draping of Indian design into beautiful cocktail dresses, saris, maxi skirts and caftans.
“FORME presents a welcome twist on the traditional fashion show,” says Lotus Eye Creative Director, Paromita Naidu. “We want to showcase the beauty and craft of South Asian music, art and design, and this event will do just that through live music, short film, networking and a runway show from Lotus Eye.”
Indian-inspired textiles, prints, draping and embroidery have been hot on the runway for several seasons. The French label Hermes recently joined the movement by releasing a limited edition collection of 27 saris.
Marilyn R. Wilson, Editor-In-Chief of Fame’d Magazine will introduce the event, which will include an eclectic musical mashup of Indian tabla drums, beatboxing, acoustic guitar, and the Middle Eastern oud.
The event will be followed by an after party at the same location at 10:30pm, and feature House, Bollywood and Bhangra music by DJ Lajit.
