Classical music tribute in Surrey

 

Lovers of Indian classical music can look forward to this coming weekend as the Naad Centre for Performing and Visual Arts hosts an open invitation concert featuring an ensemble of tabla, harmonium and vocals.
The Naad Centre is based in Surrey and teaches classes not only in tabla but also classical and folk dance, classical and semi classical (vocals), guitar, and western drum as well.
The Saturday event which takes place at the Crossroads United Church, 7655 – 120th Street, Delta B.C. at 6:30PM will open with three groups of tabla ensembles.
The ensembles are comprised of students from the Naad Centre.
The main performance will feature Naad teachers Gagandeep Singh (Vocal), Amarjeet Singh (Tabla), and Mohan Bhide (Harmonium).
Gagandeep Singh is a leading disciple of maestro Pandit Yashpal Ji of Agra Gharana and holds a Masters in Music (Vocal) from Punjab University in Chandigarh.
Amarjeet Singh has a Masters in Music (tabla) and learned from tabla maestro Guru Thakur Kishan Singh (Benares Gharana) -  in whose remembrance the concert is being held.
Mohan Bhide has also been learning since his childhood and has performed with many well-known artists from India and abroad.
